GILLES LAVIE
Pintura
At the end of 2018, he welcomed an art lover into his studio, and Gilles was struck by the relevance of what he had to say.
If we had to sum up their exchanges:
1. Let go.
2. Don't try to please those who will discover your creations,
3. and work.
Following this meeting, he decided to leave the 'classic' medium of canvas and started painting on old wooden pallets.
Since then, he has continued to take us on a journey through his urban world, with or without characters. Through his figurative subjects, he likes to suggest and let the viewer imagine the end of the story. By using this raw medium, he brings softness and warmth to urban landscapes that are sometimes harsh, cold and austere.
Whatever the subject, he respects the wood and its past, creating a real exchange between the artist and the material, in an almost 'reciprocal' respect.
More recently, he has continued to explore new media by recycling old skateboards and oyster crate lids, offering us his vision of responsible art and creating some very touching little urban stories.
