Veronica Ruth Frías
She graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the Santa Isabel de Hungría Faculty in Seville in 2003. Soon after, she moved away from painting to steer her career toward video art and performance. Sarcasm, irony, and humor are fundamental to her practice, even when addressing serious subjects such as the construction of femininity, motherhood, violence against women, and the historical discrimination of women within art history. Throughout her career, she has explored diverse themes, all of which have been focused on the feminist art movement since her very first work.
Since 2005, she has been transforming her appearance through costumes, makeup, and even camouflage to adopt alternative identities. Her work has been recognized with various awards and has been featured in numerous exhibitions.
"Each person faces life in a specific way: there are people who are sad without reason, and people who smile at every turn, no matter how hard life may get. These different personalities are projected into the artist you become because, for me, the artistic experience is a replica of our life experience." — Verónica Ruth Frías, from an interview with Inquire Magazine (2016)
